Winch Strap
A winch strap is a webbing tiedown tensioned with a trailer winch or compatible tensioning device.
Plain-English Meaning
Winch straps are common on flatbeds for lumber, palletized freight, pipe, and many packaged loads. Their value depends on WLL markings, webbing condition, hardware, winch condition, and edge protection.
A strap that is cut, burned, knotted, crushed, chemically damaged, or missing a readable tag should be handled under company policy before it is counted.
In day-to-day freight work, the safest use of the term is narrow and factual. Confirm the current rule, equipment rating, shipment condition, and company procedure before using any glossary definition for a live securement decision.
Watchouts
- Width alone does not prove WLL.
- Sharp cargo edges can damage webbing quickly.
- Loose winches or bad tracks can undermine the strap.
