Glossary

Eye Vertical Coil

An eye vertical coil is a coil positioned with the coil eye running up and down.

Plain-English Meaning

Coil orientation changes the securement review and should be confirmed before planning. Eye vertical means the coil opening is upright rather than aligned with the deck length or width.

The current metal coil source and company policy should control live decisions. The term identifies orientation; it does not prescribe a complete securement method.

Review cradle or support fit, contact points, chain path, edge protection, and whether the coil can tip, rotate, or slide.

In day-to-day freight work, the safest use of the term is narrow and factual. Confirm the current rule, equipment rating, shipment condition, and company procedure before using any glossary definition for a live securement decision.

Watchouts

  • Do not assume coil orientation from paperwork alone.
  • Check cradle, blocking, and chain contact.
  • Confirm weight and packaging before using a familiar coil setup.
